Delete your account

You can delete your VanLife account whenever you like, without giving reasons and without writing to anyone. Here we explain the two ways to do it and —what is almost never explained— exactly what happens to your data afterwards.

1. From the app (the quickest way)

  1. Open VanLife and go to Profile.
  2. Scroll down to Danger zone and tap Delete my account.
  3. Confirm. You are signed out and the process starts at that moment.

2. By writing to us

If you no longer have the app installed or cannot sign in, write to us at info@vanlifetribu.com from the email address you signed up with. It needs to be that address so we can check that the account is yours and avoid deleting someone else's account.

We reply within 30 calendar days at most, as the GDPR requires.

3. What is deleted, and when

Immediately, as soon as you confirm: your profile data is anonymised. Name, avatar, tribe, contact phone, vehicle model and licence plate, its dimensions, your preferences and the notification token. Your public profile ceases to exist and your routes stop being shared. All your sessions are closed and the account is blocked: your email cannot be used to sign in or to open another account while the deletion is in progress.

After 30 days: your sign-in identity is permanently deleted, and with it your email. Your arrivals at spots, your trips, your favourites, your routes, your community tags and the expense groups you created are deleted in cascade —those groups in full, with everyone's expenses. What remains, with no link to you, is the photos you uploaded, the expenses you added in other people's groups (with the name you joined with, so their split still adds up) and the usage telemetry.

4. What is kept, and why

If you have made a booking, that record is kept for 5 years, already anonymised —without your name or your data—, because a transaction with tax relevance must be able to be justified. It is not our decision: it is a legal obligation, and it applies even if you delete your account.

Crash reports and product events follow the retention periods of the providers that host them (Sentry and PostHog), as set out in the privacy policy.

5. This cannot be undone

Once you confirm, there is no going back: the 30 days are not a cooling-off period, they are the operational window for the cascading deletion. Your profile data has already been anonymised from the very first moment. If you want to use VanLife again later, you will have to create a new account and start from scratch; with the same email, once those 30 days have passed.

6. Questions

Any question about this —or about your rights of access, rectification, objection, restriction and portability— to info@vanlifetribu.com. And if you think we are not handling it properly, you can lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) or, in Portugal, with the CNPD.
